Fantastic! You have done a huge service with this work, Liam. Thank you so much!

I really hope that a high percentage of newly-minted Austrian citizens living outside of Austria do register and vote.

I completed the voter registration with the help of a generous, young law student. He offered to help me over the phone in the middle of the night while he took a break from studying for exams. I could barely believe my good fortune! This happened because, as a member of the online FB group of those who’ve applied for or attained citizenship through the descendants of persecuted persons law, I reached out for assistance with the process. With help, the application process only took a few minutes. There were a couple of terms with which I needed help.

The turnaround was very quick. I will now automatically receive what’s needed to vote in both the Austrian and EU elections.

NOW what I’d love is some sort of a forum which would provide those of us not living in AT with information on the issues and candidates so that we can make informed decisions. A tall order, I realize. A ZOOM session, perhaps? Anyone willing to take this on? We’d form quite a significant block of voters…

Thank you again, Liam Hoare, for the important work you do.

Thank you! This was incredibly helpful!

How much time does it usually take for them to replay?

For context, I sent the application, and they replied 3 days later that they could not open it (it automatically sent it as a Google Drive link). I replied to their reply (maybe I should have? It does say it was sent to the original email address) with directly attached files.

It has been a while since.

Thank you again! I had a really hard time figuring out the details by myself until I finally found this, where you put them all together in one place.

I'm glad the guide was helpful for you! As for your time question, I hope this is something other people who've had experience registering to vote can answer.

thanks for this, was helpful. I registered and received the last ballot (fall 2022 perhaps?) though I didn't fill it out in time. Really gotta be quick! I assume I'm still registered and will receive these new ballots at the same address, does anyone know how long a registration and absentee ballot request lasts?

Hi, provided you crossed the boxes under point (17), you'll get absentee ballots at your named address for 10 years before you have to re-apply.

Liam, if my father is from Vienna, is that what I write in response to Number 1? And what is the Postleitzahl for Vienna? Thx!

If your father is from Vienna, then yes Vienna would be the relevant local authority. Write Wien under point (1). Vienna has multiple PLZs, but the PLZ for the MA62's office in Vienna is 1080.
